@ the vous. 2 new tunes mastered. Celebrating.
Today's Activities
1. Printed flyers to advertise my gig at Design Does.
2. Put them up in Terra, Blick, and Tequila Sunrise Records.
3. Got a lot of good feedback from Anthony Vogdes (owner, Tequila Sunrise Records), specifically related to printmaking and creating a series of vinyl releases that relate to each other over the lifetime of the label. All the records he puts out on TSR follow a cohesive design...

Waxfarmer.com has had a slight increase in traffic lately, and last night, it got its first mp3 sale! I’m two dollars richer!

Weekend Activity
It was hard to be productive this weekend, what with my current financial situation. However, I managed to get a couple things done:
1. Finished dubplate mixes of four tunes, sent them to Turnstyle Recordings for cutting.
2. Sent those dubmixes to Pena Anthony of Droppin’ Science.
Also, I unearthed this tune from last year. This sound is a mix of skratched drums and leads that I was...
April 6 2010
This weekend I flyered Tequila Sunrise Records, Gold Million, Silk City, FreshMeltWater, and the Crane Arts building. Left a shop copy of the waxfarmer dj mix at Tequila Sunrise for in-store play. I’ve also put together a new one-sheet for WFR001.
Looked at the Ice Box and Gray Area with josh hey. The DJ area/record shop installation will probably be consolidated into one unit, with...

Putting Together a Sample Promo Pack
Ok, I’m taking some time this weekend to put together promotional materials for Permanent Drift Recordings. These materials will be used to promote Permanent Drift, Renegade Medicine Show, and the DJs and services offered by these entities. Their first application will be to book a DJ night in May. Here’s a preliminary checklist:
Physical Materials:
1 sheet (mission, history, goals,...
Java Jackets (it's not tech)
Last week, Renegade Medicine Show released some hand made QR code flyers. So far, they’ve been well received. Traffic to the RMS site is up by a little over 100%, and most of that traffic is coming from a source which google analytics calls “other”, which I can only assume means that traffic is coming from mobile phones.
Java jackets seem like the ideal place for a QR code....

Project Map
Finally took some time to sit down and map out the elements of this project. As of now, it includes the performance and promotional aspects of Permanent Drift. This is a work in progress and will be updated shortly.
updated link:
Permanent Drift
*updated 02.16.10 - added website info, still trying to get this map to look less like a spider.
* updated again - switched from mind42 to lucidchart

QR Code T-Shirts
After re-thinking the idea of using disc media for my promotional materials, it occurred to me that QR code t-shirts are an interesting possibility. By embedding a file or url in the QR code, the content would be available freely; either by being scanned in a social situation, or scanned and shared via the embedded url. If they were issued in a limited edition, these t-shirts would serve as both a...

Production Schedule
Here’s a link to my updated production schedule. The month of May has been left blank because I figure I’ll need it to tie up any loose ends or deal with last-minute changes. If everything goes according to plan (which it won’t), I should be spending the early weeks of May doing intensive promotion.

Packaging/Graphics Ideas for a promotional item
In February, I will be recording a promotional DJ mix showcasing the music created for this project. These beats were produced in a way that allows them to be re-created and remixed live using turntables, dubplates, a looping pedal, and Ableton Live. The mix will be available as a limited-edition CD and download.
I think there are two themes in this work. One is the combination of old and new....

End of January Progress Report
February is closing in, and I’ll be spending this weekend finalizing the arrangement and mix-down of beats/skratch sentences. On Monday, the files will be sent to Dubstudio for cutting. I’m also continuing to build a Live Set which will be used in performance. Next up: start designing comps for the promo pack.
Rip off meaning. Sound remains.

3rd Attempt at Cutting and Re-assembling Records
After spending a couple hours with a Dremel tool and some junk records, I’m now more frustrated with this project than ever before. The Dremel melts the vinyl as it cuts, making it impossible to cut a straight line and also impossible to re-assemble the records in any kind of functional way. I’m now convinced that this part of this project is a pointless sidetrack and unless I can get...
